May boards

Automatic doors make me feel like a Jedi
So I finally found the time to go and review the april boards thread. Yikes! With so many April apps getting rolled to May it sounds like the May boards are going to be just as crazy and competitive. 3 weeks to go before we know anything. Time to go hit the pavement and burn the stress away.... however temporarily. Maintain the positivity Bros!

I definitely need to stay off of here too. Hearing about all the people who were rolled over from April makes me nervous that I will be rolled into June. It's probably not the end of the world but I'm just impatient!

I finished my packet 4/22.

My application went out late again this month... I think I'm gonna get screwed into the June boards. It went out this morning, but it has to be in by tomorrow.

Looking at everyone elses stats, it seems like this is going to be a real competitive month for SNA. Everyone seems to have a lot of flight time and great LOR's. I know they need a lot of pilots this month to start OCS asap to make the fiscal year budget and get guys in flight school with the 2009 money, but it will be an uphill battle.

Good luck to all.

Just left my recruiter and they are submitting me today for the May boards. He doesn't know anything about rolling into the next month, so I'll just cross my fingers and hope it doesn't happen. Stats:

Applying SNA OCS Only
ASTB 8/8/8/66
College: Marquette University - B.S. Electrical and Computer Engineering w/ Criminology Minor
GPA: 3.27
LOR: 3 former employers
Extras: Presdient and VP of college fraternity, President of School IEEE Chapter, couple of different honor societies, H.S. football.
PRT: ~60/60/10:30 (on my own)

Currently right at the weight cusp for my height (I make body fat % easily), but that's after losing 65lbs since last May and still dieting/working out like a madman. Good luck to everyone else!

I've heard it both ways. The April board thread has posts alluding to the Navy cutting down on SNA OCS canidates, while there are rumors here and there about the numbers (OF SNA) staying the same or even increasing. Can we get a clarification, IF possible. I pulled this from the april boards thread about getting selected from the april boards, so I cant attest to its accuracy but I suppose it gives us an idea. I will do some more research and get back.

PILOT BDCP 2 / 17 / 11.8%
NFO BDCP 2 / 12 / 16.7%
SWO BDCP 7 / 24 / 22.6%

PILOT DA 25/65 / 38.5%
NFO DA 29/59 / 49.2%
SWO DA 61/191/ 31.9%

Where did you get that gouge about them needing a lot of pilots this month?

I was speaking to a pilot that just came out of flying and was in the office. He told me he received an email the day I was talking to him saying that the 2009 fiscal year ends and they want to get more pilots on the budget, which means they would have to be pro-rec this month and start ocs by the summer I believe. In the end, they need the pilots to sign their contracts and start flight school on this years dollar before 2009FYE versus 2010, which I guess starts sometime in the fall.

Pro-rec'd INTEL!!!!!
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the FY starts in October. Any candidates starting OCS in July or later will graduate in FY10. So in theory, SNAs would need to head to OCS in either May or June to finish OCS and have any chance of getting to flight school before October. I suppose it's possible to be pro-rec'd at the end of May/beginning of June and make it to OCS in June. But from what I've heard (unless they're making an exception for SNAs), most if not all of the applicants pro-rec'd beginning in May will be given FY10 slots. I would think that this is still a good thing for SNA hopefuls, and all applicants actually, because it's a whole new fiscal year's worth of OCS slots to fill, rather than what was left of FY09. But that's just speculation (and wishful thinking) so don't quote me on it

It would be very unlikely that someone is Pro-Rec'd in June and leaving for OCS that same month. There's a lot of paperwork and MEPS/PRT/Background stuff that has to happen.

Also, I don't think getting rolled back into a later board is a bad thing. If the slots for FY09 are almost full, the board might be picky about who gets in. But if you get rolled into a later board that's looking to fill FY10 slots, and there are many empty slots, your chances might be better.

Basically, have patience and be persistent.
