To the guys who were in Fraternities...did it matter much that you were in one or was it actually looked down upon? SynixMan, which fraternity were you in?
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.!! I don't think it mattered as much, not for me anyway. I hold no leadership roles, yet, so I'm just a member but volunteer when my bruhs call on me to do so; therefore, I never mentioned it on my application.

The only stats outside of the military that probably made an impression on my selection in April (Supply & SWO) was my 3yr leadership position in a volunteer org. That's the thing, just being a member might not impress the board. You have to show can and have stepped up and took charge of a program/series of events, lead someone or manage something in order for your involvement to have a significant impression on the board, IMO.

Granted it was 10 years ago, but I was in a fraternity...

I was in Kappa Delta...

Why have so many people referred to their GLOs in the past tense? There are no Alumni chapters available or something? It was always pressed upon me that I was joining a brotherhood, a life long commitment to work collectively for the betterment your community and its people, and so forth. Or maybe NPHC greek fraternities and sororities are different.

But, I digress...

WoW... good to see there are a lot of selects in May! April was a punch to the gut for a lot of applicants. Don't know why, but those selection rates were atrociously low!! But I'm glad to see the flood gates have opened up... I'm guessing aviation is probably at about a 50% or 60% selection rate this month (just based on the amount of pro rec announcements... no insider info).

I agree Renegade... PHA sororities (at least mine) stressed the same thing- lifelong commitment. But I think it's common for people to say "I was in XYZ sorority/fraternity." I am a Sigma Kappa Alumna. When I lived in Europe, I held a leadership position (VP of Programming) with the European Alumnae Chapter, but it was brief as I left Europe earlier than expected. I didn't have enough room to mention it with all of my other extra-curriculars, but two of my LORs were from sisters who are Majors in the AF. They mentioned that we became close as a result of my involvement with the Alumnae Chapter. I don't know my results yet, nor will I ever be sure if SK contributed positively or negatively to my application, but I'm proud of being Greek!!!

Just as a side note, Greeks do a ton of community service (at least all the chapters I know). Lots of people fail to realize that, but that kind of commitment to the community should definitely be a plus.

I know they need a lot of pilots this month to start OCS asap to make the fiscal year budget and get guys in flight school with the 2009 money, but it will be an uphill battle.

It's looking like this might be the case after all! If so, do you think they'll hurry up some of our packets to get us in the FY09 Budget?

Then I would guess putting down my farternity wouldnt be a bad idea then. I am an alumni of Alpha Tau Omega. Our chapter closed down here at ASU, mostly because interest in any greek community up here is going away and fast. It also closed down because if any fraternity up there fit the Animal House template, it was us :icon_tong

I dunno how anyone can play beer pong with Miller light, nasty! I play with Bud light usually. Then again I generally dont have to drink my beer, we clear the table pretty fast :p

Holy cow, there are so many pro-recs here! Someone should do a study comparing the acceptance rate of those who utilize the resources on AW to those who don't haha.

Man I hope I'll be able to post some good news here soon!

No results here. After reading this I called him for the first time in weeks, and he said he checks at least daily and still nothing. I'm not too optimistic, hadn't been or know anyone contacted for my clearance and lots of SNA/SWO selects. Congrats to those of you selected, still hope to be joining you.

I got pro-rec'd but nobody has been contacted for my clearance either yet. Probably because I got in BDCP. Anyone else get BDCP other than me?
