May boards

Your OR said he would call you the 3rd week of June for May boards? Yikes... Maybe he was just saying a really late date to cover his butt and keep from repeated "is it posted yet?" phone calls. But come end of May when everyone else is hearing, the 3rd week of June will seem like a long ways away.

That's like people in March board not hearing about select until last week!

i called him on the 24th of april and he said he had been getting the results back during that week (3rd week of april) for sna/nfo from the previous month...

he wouldnt cover his butt... too much of a stand up guy. straight shooter... i loved working with him and hopefully keep working with him as my navy hr guy if i'm lucky enough to get selected

i'm wit ya though! hopefully it is sooner than late june just depends on when the boards meet. if they find out sooner then they will let us know... they want us to get in too remember... recruiters i'm sure get a review about how many of their applicants get into ocs and finish, which will get them noticed by their xo and who doesn't wanna look good in front of their boss!

its so refreshing to hear others having good experiences with their ORs. I too really enjoy working with my OR. I find that if I am prompt, honest, and straightforward with my OR, he returns the attitude.

too much of the time we only hear (as with most things) the negative side of things. after all application stuff i'll make sure to get my OR and processor something to show that i appreciate all the work they did for/with me. (or could this be seen as a conflict of interest, giving/receiving gifts? i figure if it is after final select, no harm done?)

haha yup. he basically said get me over a 60 and an excellent prt or i wont submit you haha. i said aye aye and acted accordingly (-1 on the astb :icon_rage but he said it'd do just dandy)

and ya! huge bottle of jack waiting for him and i'll take him and his wife out to eat when i go swear in with him. dont worry about conflicts and gifts... your in already. time to celebrate.

i'm really looking forward to that day!

Head in the clouds
My OR has what??? He definitely told me he just sends the stuff in! Meh, at least he's a cool guy. I didn't realize he wrote a 'summary.'

Competition making you sweat? ;) Haha....me too. Seems like BDCP applicants get the shaft. Its really the only way I can pay for college though.

I don't look at it like competition. I look in this thread and see the potential for a whole lot of Pro-Recs :) But that's still a couple of weeks (and for me a trip to MEPS) away. I'll pass the time like I always do; Work, Gym, and Airwarriors. ;)

So I have yet to post my stats because I was embarrassed about my low GPA. I think I finally made it in for May Boards so here goes.
1-Intel 2-IW 3-SWO
25/F
ASTB 4/4/3 OAR 49
BA from Wright State University, Internatial Studies, Intel track, China focus
2.4 GPA with explanation to board of why it is so low in one of the rec letters (death of father just before college and boyfriend during sophomore year, it kind of derailed my studies for a year or so, trashed my GPA), last year raised .4
4.0 while on Study abroad in Dalian, China
Fluent in Spanish
Conversational in Mandarin
Worked full time for the entirety of college, sometimes 2-3 jobs to keep afloat
LORs from my boss of 4 years, retired military now in top secret job (no clue what his status is but he's high up there), O-3 pilot friend of family, Priest from Church I work at on Sundays (who has been my priest for my whole life, even baptized me I think), and Director of my Chinese University Study abroad trip in China.

Activities - Varsity track and field in High School, Varsity Tennis, Captain of Track team with three years Scholar Athlete Award (all in High School, no sports for college, too much working). Work for St. Helen Parish Religious Education on sundays, and some other things I'm forgetting.

So basically, if anything is going to shoot me in the foot it's my GPA. I figure if I'm a non select, i'll try to get some interviews, retake the ASTB and see about having my transcripts from Dalian submitted instead of using the transfer credits WSU gave me. That way I might actually get GPA credit added in. The way it is now, all those A's are not added into it. :-( Any other advice on how I could make my packet look better? I'm assuming I'm a nonselect in the first round just so I can prepare for the worst.

Oh yeah, and I met a girl (here in Dayton!) who recently got out of OCS. How did I know? Navy license plate cover and a mini mullet haircut she seemed to despise. :) It made me smile knowing that could be me sometime soon. I'll wear my ugly haircut with pride!

Good Luck everyone!

Hey Molly, wright state wrong school eh? ;)

In past posts I have read that lots of people who have an iffy GPA, but great recent quarters/semesters are favoring well. Talking about your bettered study habits and the such in your motivational statement along with what is written in your LOR, I'd say don't count yourself out before it is started.

Good luck! (from the right school, UC :D)

Thanks for the hopeful outlook. I'm typically a hope for the best, prepare for the worst kind of gal. My motivational statement got great reviews from my editor and the lady at the recruiters office that puts everything together. I wrote about my time in an underdeveloped city in China. I wrote about having to be escorted everywhere so that i wasn't robbed or worse just for being an American and for being female, and to them, being american meant having money. I wrote about how growing up surrounded by WWII vets and then going to a communist country shaped my desire to serve my country. It was an eye opening experience to say the least. I figured it was something the board probably doesn't hear all that often, being that most sane people don't ship themselves off to a random city in China for the hell of it. Don't get me wrong, I had a blast and learned a lot (I even had a tai chi class as part of Chinese culture!) but it was not easy and there were times I was extremely unhappy.

Did you have to go all the way to columbus for a recruiter too? who did you get?

For other's who might find this thread from Dayton or the area...

No, my recruiter is out of Hamilton. Which is very close to Wright State. I went to Columbus for MEPS and ASTB, where my processor is/was.

I'll send you a PM with more specifics on the recruiter.

I'm sick of the sweating! I think I did that too much for the April boards just to find out that I got rolled to May. This time around I'm just gonna sit and wait....and stay of of Airwarriors......You see how that's working for me:D
