Most Exotic Places You've Landed?

Thought I'd start a thread on some of the strange places we've been to. You Navy boys can play too, I know I've run into a few of you out there getting your freak on in some remote places. Rule is you have to have flown a military aircraft there and been a part of the crew, not self loading baggage.

I'll start off I guess. I have two. Without a doubt, the most exotic place I've ever had to land was Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Landed there in June and there was still a meter of snow on the ground. Couldn't understand the controler and ended up following their version of a follow me for over 5 miles around the airfield.

In close second it was Sultan Mohamed M Badarundi III in Sumatra. I got intercepted and damn near shot down. Once we landed my entire crew was nearly taken hostage. We paid some dude $2,500 dollars from the safe on board and were able to get some gas and get the hell out of there. Very scary! Never underestimate the power of greed, or the knowledge of english in far away places. Telling someone to "Go f#$k themself," will get you an Ak-47 in the face even if they don't speak english.

Kwajelain Atoll was pretty nice. Beni Suef Egypt was cool as well.

Kwaj baby! Yeah I love that funky little island. I have a Kwaj Franken bike too! I got it for the MX dept guys to ride around on. They love it. Watch out for the cougars though, they are vicious. Did you know when they shut down Johnston Atoll and before Wake got washed away that they took all of the records from both of the radio stations and put them on Kwaj? They have the best record collection in the world. In fact they have one Greatful Dead Album there that is worth thousands. I actualy listend to it then carefuly put it back. Awesome place!

Midway Island. Over a million birds, 25 of which passed in close proximity to the aircraft on short final at night.

Even if everything you have posted thus far has actually transpired, you are completely and absolutely full of shit in every imaginable sense. Please make a note of it. Otherwise, good thread.

Had to bring a Prowler back from Aviano after another squadron got in a wrestling match with a 135 and bent the probe about 25 degrees off. Ruptured the pressure bulkhead and such. The Grummies looked at it and said get it home as step one will be remove cockpit and they were looking at 2000 man hours of work. The took the probe off and squirted the holes full of goop so it would pressurize and wingman along off we went probe-less.

Aviano to Lakenheath
Lakenheath to Keflavik (spend the night, get my $14 beer in Reykjavik)
Kef to (and here's the weird one) Sondrestrom Fjord Greenland, about 60 miles above the arctic circle (I'm sure you VP guys know where it's at)
Greenland to Goose Bay Labrador
Goose Bay to Brunswick (spent the night, VP buddy there and family took his boat out to an island in Casco bay and ate lobsters and drank beer)
Brunswick home to NAF Andrews

A lot of checks in the block the standard VAQ guy doesn't get and a lot more fun than the standard Rota to home tanker-ex

Hmmm, take your pick:

Souda Bay, Crete
Sigonella, Italy
Tirana, Albania
Some LZ NE of Tirana
Amboulie and Chabelly Airfields, Djibouti
US Embassy, Liberia
Roberts International Airport, Liberia
Countless LZ's in Liberia
Al Qaim, Korean Village, Al Asad, Haditha Dam, Blue Diamond, Ramadi, Fallujah, Baghdad, Mahumadia, Baghdad, Abu Ghraib, Taji.
Countless DUSTY LZ's in Iraq

And probably the most exotic (for the OP at least) - USS Iwo Jima, USS Nashville, USS Carter Hall... That's right, I'm a NAVAL Aviator! :D

Was gonna call out my boats as well, but thought it would just be too cruel. Nice job. ;)

Varna, Bulgaria, 1992. MI-14 "Haze" base. Some Hips too. We landed our 60's, and the locals come out with booze. Then, we go flying together.

If by "exotic", you mean "shit" ... :) ... then Mogadishu on a CRAF flight. It's the ONLY place a legacy-carrier airline pilot will go to Base Ops to file the return flight plan while wearing kevlar and accompanied by an armed escort ....

If "exotic" means what I think it does ... :) ... then, of course, USS BOAT. The rest is just practice ...
