Letters from employers, professors and coaches out weigh LORs from high governing people cause they want LORs from people that know you. I got letters from all employers in last three years my soccer coach, professor, director of the humane society that I volunteered at and a veterinarian I shadowed and player organized soccer with.

I would agree. Obviously it helps if they both know you well, and have "good titles". My LORs came from two college professors I had a few times (One the director of general engineering (Phd), and the other an ex-Police officer who was also a Professor (Phd)). And my last one was from a Church leader who had seen me work and volunteer over my whole life.

In my opinion, the fact that they knew me well added more than their titles because they had more than just generic things to say.

Ya the employer ones kind of get redundant in terms of reference. But I also had strong contacts with Veterinarians as I was initially accepted into veterinary school before this process. Turned it down for the opportunity to have a career as a Naval Officer.

It definitely helps if your professors and/or teachers say your a top 5 student/employee too.

Did you not have to get employer references from the last three years?

So I got selected for Pilot and NFO. Do I get to pick?

You will be forever banished to sit in the back seat and play video games... I kid. Congratulations! Yes you get to pick, ask your recruiter how to do so. I haven't gotten to that point but I only applied for SNA.

You do NOT get to pick. They give you the one that was listed first. If you put Pilot before NFO then even if you want NFO more, they give you Pilot because it was first.

It was my understanding as well as my recruiters that your packet would go before all boards, and assuming you were selected for all three, you got to pick. This is NOT the case; they give you the first designator that you were selected for according to your three choices.
So for example, if you listed SWO/NFO/Pilot and got selected for all three, you would receive a Final Select Letter for SWO and an OCS date. Even if you got picked for Pilot and want to do that more than SWO, because you listed SWO first that is what you get.

So basically, make sure you really think hard about the order you put them in when first applying. It matters!
I know its too late now if you already applied but I want people to know that you do not get to decide and pick amongst what you were selected for.

Hope this is helpful. I know it was a learning experience for myself and my recruiter!

Not true at all. Same boat as you are describing where I am PROREQ for multiple designators. You can pick. If your recruiter told you otherwise he is lying to you.
