Navy Pilot/ NFO "Rolling" Boards MAR/APR 2013

Hate to disagree with you mtaylor but these guys are right. You do get to choose which designator you want. I asked my OR about that very thing this past week, and he said you get to choose which one you want, because both will be listed on your FS letter.

If this is the case then I am sitting on a much bigger situation than I was previously aware.
In this case I probably need to call my NRD Office and run this up the totem pole and talk with PERS in Tennessee?
I am not saying that you guys are incorrect but I am stating that I was not given the opportunity to select amongst my options.

My recruiter has no clue and is just happy I got selected for Pilot, as am I. He originally assured me that I got to pick amongst those designators I was selected for. He says "Oh well I guess you don't get to pick, I thought you could. Congratulations though!"
I do know for a fact that my SWO application was withdrawn because I was given Pilot and my OCS date is now prior to the July SWO Board.

I guess they are superseding the way things are typically done (with having your application seen at all boards before giving you an OCS date) and due to the backlog of Pilots/NFOs they are just sending people straight to OCS.

I am looking at my Final Select Letter right now and it says Pilot. It does not mention NFO anywhere and I was never given the opportunity to pick.
I wanted to hear from the SWO board as well before I made my selection, but that won't happen now.

See this thread from about six months ago: http://www.airwarriors.com/community/index.php?threads/question-about-designation-order.40073/

To quote NavyOffRec:

Write a letter saying that you would prefer to take the NFO pro rec, address the letter to the NFO and SWO program manager, sign it and give it to your OR or processor, make sure you keep a copy. If this isn't done quickly you will be getting a letter sending you to OCS as a SWO.

From how I read that, since you already have a FS, it is too late.

Thank you.
I had previously read that thread and have been PMing with NavyOffRec as well.

As it stands I can either "take it or leave it" and pretty much write off active duty Navy for a lifetime if I choose to not take the Pilot slot. Nothing can be done now since the Final Select letter has been received.
Just wanting to share my particular experiences in the event that someone else finds themselves in a similar situation.

If your biggest worry is accepting a SNA slot then I'd say you have it pretty good ;)

IF you can't decide whether you want to accept SNA... crissakes, turn it over to some deserving dude who truly wants the slot most candidates would die for. Your 'entitled to what you want' whining here is getting boring and irritating. I hope you get your SWO wish, you deserve it!

The thing with mtaylor is the SWO board isn't until July, NRC won't wait that long, and once a FS letter is issued it is too late (generally).

You should ALWAYS put designators down in order of preference, NRC is under no obligation to switch but the letter I talked about can work.

The above is becoming more critical since NRC is trying to get to the point where everyone going to board will already be PQ, this means once the board results come out FS letters will be generated fast.

Understood, that makes perfect sense.
Thank you for taking the time to help out!

I have chosen, and I am going with SNA. My FS will not come in until I receive my background check. I hear it takes 7-10 days after the finger prints are taken... which were done last Thursday afternoon. Now its just focusing on getting my endurance up, lots of swimming, and lots of studying.

Like I said previously:
Sarcasm noted, and not only by me. Out of only 37 posts you have made since joining AW, you have racked up 7 negative ratings, which is I believe, an AW record. Arrogantly insulting your fellow candidates & winged Commissioned Officers here, will not be beneficial to you if you wish to join us. In your first week on AW, you "awarded" fellow posters 4 negative ratings before you even made your first post, another AW record. Humility is not your strong suit... strongly suggest you don't keep on diggin'.. OUT!

I've had my stuff all since March and still have no FS letter. Or said I may hear something by end of this week. Does my recruiter get my letter and a date or do they mail it to my house? I'm pushing to go to OCS on June 2 if I can.

John I'm in the same boat as you, minus the worry about age. My OR told me last Monday that it could take 1-2 weeks to get the FS. Considering Vandy got June 2nd last week in an FS it makes me think those of us who have not heard yet are less likely to receive it given time frame. However, I am just guessing and I would be willing to bet that 2 weeks notice may seem short to us, but is more than long enough for the Navy. All we can do at this point is wait some more, workout and start memorizing in case we do get June 2nd on later notice!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic Monday!
