Obama and Gays In the Military

Meh. Gays are gonna be in the military regardless of what the policy is, imo. As long as they're not creepy / abusive I don't really care.

Of course, I'm sure I've shared plenty of facilities with gays before without knowing it. I really don't care - but the systemic double standard inherent in government civilian officials dictating to the military really bugs me. Don't even get me started on the removal of porn from exchanges.

I'm pretty sure we all have...maybe even on the boat!

...and I'm spent.

To me, the bottom line is that its a private matter. Whether we like it or not, its seems an impossibly remote chance that we haven't shared a shower, locker room etc...with a gay man (or woman) already...and I'm none the worse for wear. Do I love the thought? Of course not.

On the other hand...if you make it a public matter, and act like a fag...you'll get treated like one. Don't paint a target on your back (ass) and people won't shoot it.

As for anecdotal evidence of "gay rape and violence"...its no different than straight "rape or violence". It's f%^&ing abbhorent and they ought to have their $%^& cut off. Period...but not because they are gay.

All of the arguements for making accomodations for gays on the boat are for logistics within a limited space. Now why don't we just let the AF and Army open the floodgates since they stay in resort hotels and tents?

I was on the JFK as well, but never saw "knocking of da' boots" or "rectal rooting" in the heads. Or had passes made at me on either.

VIK & Yorktown had a bunch sent home via sex scandal.

It's funny that most of us complain that most americans bitch about the country yet never pick up a weapon and serve. But if I gay person wants to serve his country we shouldn't allow it? Listen, I know I am not gay so why should it scare me that someone else is? I say if someone is willing to sacrifice for the country, I am proud to serve with them.

Second, the whole "shower" argument is just hysterical. By that logic just because a person doesn't say he is gay makes him straight. I hate to break it to some of you but we probably have all showered in the presence of a gay person while in the military and well I've never been sexually harassed there.

I have my own personal beliefs on this issue because I know an army officer who hides her lifestyle because of our policies. She encompasses what an officer should be and will be leaving the service solely because she is sick of hiding who she is. How does this make our military stronger?

How does letting gays be open in the military make it stronger? I only see problems. The good of letting them be open and get warm and fuzzies doesn't out weight the problems it will cause.

I have absolutely nothing against anybodys sexual preference especially behind closed doors. However, the military discriminates for all kinds of reason. If you are handicapped in a wheel chair you will not make it past meps. Yet that handicapped person might be the best intel-weeny to have ever lived if they are allowed to serve. Same goes for a grotesquely obese person who will never pass a PFA. That person might know more about computers and hacking into other governments systems... Who the hell knows... The point of those statements is that there is plenty of "talent" out there, just not everybody is meant to serve in uniform.

Rugby, I take it you are volunteering to sleep 12 inches away from a gay man who wants to stick it in your pooper? Not all gays are the aggressive type like that, but enough are.

I would not expect women to be happy about having me in their stateroom.

I'm gonna have to agree with Scoober on this. All the arguments against gays in the military are more paranoia than logical points. Everyone is paranoid that their ass is going to be violated the moment a homo steps in their berthing. What makes you think your ass is so irresistable that they'll break countless UCMJ articles and laws just for a piece of your piece?!? Rape and assault still apply...as well as old fashioned bulkhead to bulkhead councling. And showers? Maybe my ship was an exception, but the male heads had individual stalls and showers...it wasn't open bay. And if you don't want to get checked out in berthing, then don't prance around naked...I don't want to see that sh!t anyways.

There were a few gays on my ship, including one in my division. One of the best petty officers I ever stood watch with. And I'm proud to say my hinnyman is still intact, nor was it ever in jeopardy. As long as they do their job, do it well, and follow the standards, where's the f@#$ing problem?!? Just tell them not to go around flaming or try to make their uniforms look fabuloussss...

I guess the thing that is making me scratch my ear and shake my head is... why do you all think these gay men would want you? :D

Heck, even gay men have standards.

It is possible that an outing in the military would lead to more passes being made. I must say that I avoid mullet-head women at all costs because they can be as aggressive as a drunken redneck and as difficult to rebuff. Yet, one can make oneself clear to a pushy aggressor, straight or gay. However, it is a fallacy to assume that the already serving gays would act remarkably differently if their sexuality was acknowledged openly.

Well, you may have already. And that argument doesn't really hold up when you have men and women sleeping out in the field together and as far as I know, there are few problems.

And rape is not a common crime in the operational Navy anyways, pretty uncommon actually.
