Non-select for Intel. I think I will re-apply for the December board.

My OR said that selects for Intel were in the single digits out of over 500 kits.

Congratulations to everyone that made it!

Remember unless there is a significant change in your application you have a 6 month wait, so look at what you can do to have that significant change, it is easier for aviation to have a change.

I have seen many that have enlisted in hopes of getting commissioned, in general that doesn't work out well, you would be better off applying for SWO if you really want to serve.

She must be new, anyone that has been around officer recruiting for awhile knows that many great applicants never get picked up for IDC fields just because of the numbers that apply.

I'd like to get into the CWE designator. But from what little information I can find, it seems the most likely way of getting into that Officer position is being enlisted first. SWO I'm still unsure about, I have a wife and I'm not sure how she'd respond to two DIVO tours.

I have heard the following argument for guys that really want to be SEALs and get turned down...

If you really truly want to do spooky intel stuff, enlist as an IS. If it's more important for you to lead, go be a SWO, pilot, etc and try to lat transfer later. You have to decide which is more important to you.

Out of curiosity, have you talked to many intel officers? I was all hung ho for it too until I got a peak behind the curtain... now I plan to go back to be a SWO department head.

Have you considered CIA, DIA, FBI, State, etc?

Unless you have the designators switched CWE is generally people coming right from college, they have only taken a few over the past few years, first year was 4, second was 3, third was supposed to be 3 but they lowered the goal to 0 so not sure what happened after that.

CWE is not a career designator, you have to apply for lateral transfer and be accepted into another community before the end of your 5th year.

I had one person apply for CWE he didn't get in, he had a near perfect GPA in Comp Sci but just wasn't picked.

One interesting thing is CWE will look at people with tech degrees and if they want to see if you are interested they will have the program manager contact you, we had that happen with 2 people in my NRD, both turned down the offer.

Doesn't matter what your designator is you will deploy, doesn't matter if it is SWO, Intel, CEC, etc..... being gone is being gone, if you are concerned now about how she would respond to deploying you may want to revisit your career path.

guys that want to be SEALs are unique individuals, each SEAL officer candidate I had said if they weren't picked up officer they were going to go enlisted, and they did.

very good advice.

Just heard that my N3M and Clearance forms have been submitted, and now Im waiting on my FINSEL letter. Hopefully wont take too too long.

Did I read that this takes a max of a month give or take?

The FINSEL letter really has no set time, the sooner they want you at OCS the quicker you will get it, some PM's have had a policy of not sending out FINSEL letters until X months prior to their OCS class.

Gotcha. I just spoke to my OR who told me to expect 3-5 weeks. Hopefully this is an accurate assessment!

Thanks for the advice, NavyOffRec. I really appreciate all the time that you and other ORs spend on this forum giving advice. I plan to study and retake the OAR before the next board. I'm also hoping to get a few more LORs from people that were unavailable during the summer. My understanding is that a jump in OAR score counts as a 'significant change.' Is that right?

I would go with that, but it is really how the NRD views it, but I do think most would go with that.
