October/November SNA & SNFO Boards

For the unofficial dates people are getting, it seems like the May board people are getting slotted into November, and the June people at getting slotted into December and January.

My recruiter says it all depends. These people are left overs for being picked up in 2014. Oct. 1 is looking for the new fiscal year so it has nothing to do with slots in that case from what I was understanding. The real questions is how soon can we leave once we get accepted or if we even do. You will find out in late October or more likely end of November if you made it in. However the day you go to OCS is an entirely different matter because there are so many people being placed in the early slots from those who got accepted during the summer. Yet you can look throughout the forum. Some of the summer people got there acceptance andwe at OCS with in less than 2 months while others had to wait 6 months. Like varlogkern said it is a crap shoot. But the best time to apply is the beginning of the fiscal year where there is more slots and more money for the Navy to burn. If you wait towards the end of the year like the July board (which was absolutely horrible) your chances dwindle dramatically.

For me, assuming if I get picked up for SNA or SNFO, I will have to be in the 21Nov14 OCS class in order to not age out. So yeah... Things are going to be moving insanely fast for me.

If you look around the thread a bit more, you will realize that spots for FY15 are already being filled, and that 1Oct14 will not be "special" when compared to other review boards regarding FY15 accession goals. Those goals are typically not know until much later in the year, according to some of the senior members who post on this forum. To clarify what I am saying:
The February board had selectees that have been slotted for OCS classes for FY15.
The May board had selectees that have been/will be slotted for OCS classes for FY15.
The June board had selectees that have been/will be slotted for OCS classes for FY15.
The October board will have selectees that will be slotted for OCS classes for FY15.
FY15 numbers are being filled before goals are known, and up to this point, that includes two boards with selection rates up to the 70-80% range, as well as one with a 30% selection rate. There is no reason to assume that October is going to be a magical board with selection rates significantly higher or lower than normal due to it being the "first board of FY15."

Alright....alright...alright...

Question of the day: what have past boards selection percentages looked like for the first board after the start of the fiscal year?? (with no discredit to the fact that people are already filling fy15 seats.)

Ok so the Oct.1 board you will most likely know if you have made the cut in November or if you are really lucky in late October. The slots for the Oct. 1 have nothing to do with those picked up this summer. The summer class is affecting how early it is for the Oct. board students to report to OCS. As Varlo said it is a crap shoot. There are people who get their acceptance letter and are able to go to OCS within 2 months or even a month while others have to wait 4-6 months. It just all depends on the luck of the draw. If any of us make it in this board we could be in a December OCS class MAYBE, or a January/February (if there is one). However it could be another 4-6 months of waiting after you get your letter of acceptance. Even when you have your class date they could push it back again to a later date. Navy kind of screwed up by not keeping the Pensacola OCS for aviators because the process is longer and more screwed up now it seems like. Also the Oct. 1 board is THE best time to get picked up. It is the beginning of the fiscal year so more number of slots and a new replenishment of finances. Applying to later boards like July is super difficult because slots are limited, budget is tight and they are waiting for the new fiscal year. This year the July board was one of the worst in years (what my recruiter informed me). So Oct. 1 is what you want to shoot for or the board right after. That is what my recruiter and proctor told me and that is what a close family friend who is on the board who accepts applicants into the Naval Academy. Yet just because the beginning of the fiscal year means people are more likely to get picked up with low scores does not mean it is a guarantee. It depends on the needs of the Navy, how many slots are needed to be filled, what package someone else is bringing to the table, etc.

@Sundevil106150 +1 what @MikeMillerUK said. I thought a similar thing. But NRC just uses what they think the numbers will be, but the free for all class appears to have been back in May. Armchairing it, my bet is that it will be between the May and June boards on selection rates. That said, we are all just making guesses.

Apparently there was a double post my bad, but yah Oct. SHOULD be in our favor but like Mike said who knows what the needs of the Navy are. The only thing that helps us is the new fiscal year and the low selection rate in the previous board. All I know is I hope to see you all at OCS and primary.

Slight correction. Assuming the board does meet on 01Oct14, there is a solid chance we will know by the end of that next week. Possibly through unofficial channels, but you will know with enough confidence to pop some bubbly (or your beverage of choice). Official notification coming the end of the week of 13Oct14.

Fleet applicants get first dibs on finding out if picked up or not. Yes you are free to be jealous of that fact, I know I have been, but it's only fair. With us lowly civvies finding out a few days after them.

Also @RTI35 that is correct. 01Oct14 is a No Earlier Than date. I would still say it would occur fairly close to that with the last board being at the end of June.

Seems like a lot of speculation goin on when all we know for sure is that the next board won't be until at least 01Oct.

nope, that is not how officer recruiting works, that is how enlisted recruiting works. It is rare for actual hard goals for OCS to be out before December, even then goals are based on past years goals until hard goals come out and goals don't vary that much from year to year, so when it comes to larger designators there is no advantage to going to a board in October, and with the smaller designators it can be a disadvantage as the spring boards often fill FY 15 goals, so when they come out with hard goals and if they go down, they may not have more spots to have a board after the new FY starts.

WIt is purely a crap shoot (or so it seems recently) what scores they take. June was brutal, while May they took a ton of people. A 48 6/7/6 could use some OAR work, but with those line scores, roll the dice and see what happens.
Hey Dudes, I took a chance and applied with a 35 5/3/4 and got ProRec-Y. The rest is history, so don't give up.;)
