I'd rather just wear the half-wings. I think I could understand why they didn't though. Probably got lots of questions.

"Are your wings broken? LOL!"

"So what's up with those wings?"

"Are you like a half-pilot?"

I think it's a cool idea but I don't know anything about it. Wouldn't the blimp be a sitting target? Couldn't the drug runners, smugglers etc just shoot it down?

Oh the humanity!

Actually, the 1/2 wings were for Free Balloons only. The real LTA (Blimps, etc.) had the regular Naval Aviator wings.

Here's what Naval History says about the 1/2 wings:

Although the exact date for approval of this insignia is
unclear, a description of the device first appeared in the
1922 Uniform Regulations. “Enlisted men holding certificates
of qualification as balloon pilots shall wear the
same insignia [as Naval Aviators] but with the right wing
removed.” These enlisted balloonists flew free and kite
balloons (undirected lighter-than-air [LTA] craft) and
could also be assigned to and qualify as crewmen in
blimps and rigid airships (directed LTA craft.) Although
officers and Naval Aviation Pilots (enlisted) could qualify
as balloon pilots, they were more likely to choose to
wear the full Naval Aviator wings they were awarded
upon completion of initial flight training in heavier-than-air
or directed-flight LTA craft. The 1978 Uniform
Regulations removed Balloon Pilot wings from the list of
authorized aviation breast insignia.

Hmmm that's interesting. Well I still think it'd be neat to be an LTA pilot.

Dirigible = ok, but what would be great would be a seaplane. Aqua wings or something crazy to that effect. Why is your uniform wet? Well...i just landed one three in the river. Does anyone remember talespin? We would be taught by some lacksidaisical bear. Glorious.

Yeah, I'd change that avatar before you submit your app...just in case some other prying eyes make that same mistake. That poor fella is gross. When I first see your posts, my first thought is, "I'm not listening to anything that guy says...Look at him!"
