Ab initio CAP pilot? What is that like? How do graduates serve? Min payback? Locations?
Mostly for cadets. The are fully paid flight training programs for Private Pilot and Instrument. Adult members have a subsidized program to CFI. Funded by the AF. The AF believes the pool of new pilots in US is a strategic, big picture capability.

Training for active duty AF members is done by CAP in 182, to prepare for UPT.

That is actually a good point. You often hear about the idea of a country having a large pool of young men familiar with military skills to draw upon if needed (like guns) but having a large pool of civilian pilots is also a good idea.

In the right seat of a Phrog. American Helicopter Museum.

Docent permitted me to open cabin door and climb in the front office.

This is one of the last CH-46E serve active duty and has the very latest AFC and AVC's of the type. Fairly impressive and a far cry from the old school D's of my HC days.

From an airshow in the early 2010s where someone was thumbing through the NATOPS manual. Can get a sense of some of the differences.

That panel is just so much legacy 'suck'. Analog BDHI, 1960's era CDI (ID-351) is just absurd/obscene. Every USAF aircraft since the T-38 has had a integrated electro mechanical HSI with both bearing pointers, glideslope, and course indicaton displayed relative to heading and DME/distance to give a "horizontal situation" display. NAVAIR has made the worst choices on cockpit instrumentation.

We suffered through this in the T-34C being instructed with backwards ass cockpit displays that included the RMI and CDI and seperate displays with yet another TACAN DME display.

Blah!

It was nice to see American icon and Medal of Freedom recipient Ralph Lauren being escorted by a sharp looking young Army Aviator!

Base closed, roads closed, max telework in effect = busy espresso machine.

What's the coffee options now at your typical squadron or ship?
