With our normal load in the OV-10 (12 5 inch Zunis, one pod of 19 2.75 inch rockets, four internal M-60s, SUU-11 minigun, and a pod of flares for night work) you won't be launching it from the deck of many ships. We needed a pretty long roll, especially in hot weather.

So then what is it doing on the Deck of an LHA, nearest suit landing site

Is the AF going to be the only recipient if this comes to fruition?

They fvckin better not be! But they prob will. ...crawlin back into my hole now

A slick like the one in the photo can deck launch. Hang a bunch of ordnance off of it, which is one of the requisites for a "close air support" a/c, and it would waddle down the deck and fall gracefully off the end. We flew them at max gross wt.

ONTOS. Cool beans as long as you ain't gotta be the one to get out and reload

Bad bad juju loaded with 6 beehive rounds

Threadjack continues ...

A lack of onboard ammo and the requirement to dismount to reload were problematical -- it could have been "fixed" but never was .... but Grunts always seemed to like 'em in any case. There were some around @ Pendleton summer '67 -- a most impressive little vehicle. A classmate of mine employed some in the Battle for Hue City -- he couldn't speak highly enough of the little "Pig". So the Corps deleted them from the inventory and the Army didn't want 'em from the get-go = scrap heap = situation normal:

Here's a 106mm recoilless rifle mounted to the wing of a Cavalier F-51 Mustang being test-fired in flight.

Happened out at China Lake in the early 70s, flown by a USMC Lt Col.

So then it would deploy afloat, launch slick, and get ordinance in country? And if that's the case, would it do the same for the return home, or did they even land on the thing?

Did you even think this through before posting? any OV-10 an L class ship was a gimick at best. Without ORDNANCE there wouldn't be much point would there?

If Boeing starts up production of the OV-10 again, they could make modifications to make it more ship-friendly, couldn't they?

Either bigger motors, better high lift devices for LHD ops, or a tow bar and tailhook for CVN ops? I imagine the tow bar and tailhook might be stretching it, even though it seems to have pretty beefy gear.

Seems reasonable, no?
