WTF is Kilwans?? If you're a true Annapolitan, you get your scoop at Storm Brothers...
Aromi d'Italia is two doors down and much better for ice cream.
And for a milkshake: Chick and Ruth's.

My folks moved to Annapolis when I was 6 years old. Aromi d'Italia, Ben & Jerry's, etc... didn't exist when I was there growing up. I stand by my statement. A TRUE Annapolitan goes to Storm Brothers.Aromi d'Italia is two doors down and much better for ice cream.
Can't argue that one. And also Chick & Ruth's for a post-drinking munchie-fest...And for a milkshake: Chick and Ruth's.

You are correct in your assumption. From 1998-2007 I didn't live in or around Annapolis, but I did live in Annapolis from 1979-1998, and Odenton from 2007-2009. Annapolis Ice Cream Company may be all that and a bag of chips - but I'll still go to Storm Brothers. Why? Because I like it, and it was around when I was a kid.I'm going to assume all those favoring Storm Brothers were not living in/near Annapolis when the Annapolis Ice Cream Company opened. It's hands down my favorite and has won the "Best Ice Cream in Annapolis" award since 2005. Next time your in town, go for the homemade peanut butter flavors.
Because I like it, and it was around when I was a kid.
Jesus....you're an Ensign already? Where has the time gone?I'm an Ensign by the way, not a firstie.
I would agree with that, having first hand experience in some of that stupid shit. The difference is (and yes, there is a difference) that folks at the Academy are Mids 24/7. That's the deal you guys signed up for and as such, you will ALWAYS be held to a higher standard until you meet up with your peers from ROTC after graduation. At that point, you'll both be held to the same standard. ROTC folks are Mids one or two days a week and really only for just a few hours. Why the hell do you think those of us that went the ROTC route decided to go that way. It's not because we couldn't get into the Academy.DanMa1156 said:And as far as scandals go, come on, let's be honest, I'm sure NROTC mids do as much or more stupid crap than Academy mids
Agreed. Now riddle me this - why do PLC bubbas (in the Marine Corps) rate MORE pay than an Academy guy at commissioning? Seems a little BS to me.The difference is (and yes, there is a difference) that folks at the Academy are Mids 24/7. I know why. It's so you could have the "real" college experience, or so I've been told countless times. Can we please get off that train (not necessarily directed at you)? I loved the college experience I had, and wouldn't trade it for a "real" college experience for a million years. Besides - some of us realized that if it wasn't a service Academy, VMI or the Citadel - we would never have graduated from college (yes, I needed a daily kick in the ass to go to school. I hated all forms of school until I was about 30, still don't like it, but at least realize the importance of it).Why the hell do you think those of us that went the ROTC route decided to go that way. You have a point, but that point brought up something I still don't get. If Academy grads truly don't really make any better officers than ROTC types by the time everything shakes out, then why does the Navy spend SO MUCH more per capita on the average USNA alum as compared to an OCS or NROTC type?
So I wouldn't really be too nonplussed if CNET came out tomorrow and said ROTC mids would have to do unit PT 3 days a week, wear their uniforms 2-3 days a week, and take more hard science courses or language/cultural/military history courses to get a commission. And I would also not be nonplussed if the new USNA Supe actually let the kids there have a social life that didn't involve vaulting stone walls or inventing stupid games in Bancroft Hall (Yes, I'm exaggerating, but you get my point).

I agree, but I don't make the rules, my friend.Agreed. Now riddle me this - why do PLC bubbas (in the Marine Corps) rate MORE pay than an Academy guy at commissioning? Seems a little BS to me.
Nah, it's so I wouldn't have to put up with the bullshit games anymore (at least to that extent). I went in as an enlisted nuke to 1) go to the Academy and 2) become a pilot. I ended up going to BOOST (waste of my time) and graduated in the top 10. I could have easily gone to the Academy after that if I wanted. I was told more than once to just say the word and it would be done. After nuke school and BOOST, I was ready for a lower key educational experience that included the company of attractive women. Now whether you call that a "real" college experience is up to you I guess. For me, I was just happy to be around blue eyed blondes and beer in the same place. :icon_zbeephrogpilot73 said:I know why.
