Crap, it has nothing to do with respect. If there is evidence that you're plotting a bombing and I'm raiding your apartment or house, fvck your religion, fvck your customs, I'm taking you down. You could be Muslim, Catholic, Mormon, I don't care. You'll either be arrested or dead, up to you. This kind of lunacy is just... well, lunacy.

How long did it take them to catch their suspects? Yeah, they know how to deal with terrorists. We need to take a page from their playbook.

They get attacked over a war they never wanted, but unlike the Spanish, they aren't pulling out. Tony Blair took a tremendous political hit supporting president Bush over the war in Iraq, but he isn't backing down. Europe is a much riper target than the U.S. for a terrorist attack for numerous reasons, yet he sent troops knowing full well that a reprisal attack in England was likely. That is not politics, that is huge nuts. Before you go spouting off against the British and their peaceful society, remember the loyalty and determination of their leader and their relative success.

And just to help you read between the lines: are we fighting a war against Islam? No. We are fighting a war against Islamic extremism. They issue press releases like that to calm the substantial and frightened law abiding Muslim community. If they got wind of a suspect, do you think they'd hesitate in kicking down a door, stamping on a prayer rug and shooting some crazy homicide bomber? No, they've already proven they shoot to kill.

However, winning over the hearts and minds of the Muslim world is key. We will never catch all the potential terrorists. What we need to do is destroy their support in the community and isolate their belief system. That press release is spin used to calm a worried Muslim population.

Disagree. It's PC run amok. The muslims should worry, they aren't doing entirely enough to fight extremism. Saw it first hand more than enough times in college and still today. And the Brits are run amok with militant Islam. They even have their own nice cleric who actively preaches death to Westerners (Brits included). The Brits do nothing to stop him. If you did the same under a different association (KKK?), you'd get slammed hard. It's ridiculous.

Can you not even see the safety ramifications either? No shoes? All some yahoo has to do is leave a bunch of glass everywhere.

(Agree that the Brits do have nuts, and they caught their suspects fast, they're good at what they do, but they just sometimes go a little nuts... like us sometimes)

It is pretty clear that the Bedfordshire Police are not going to follow any of those items listed above in a serious situation. They are all weakly worded and easily discarded in the event of a real problem. No, I firmly believe that "policy" is meant to assuage the fears of the local Muslim population.


What you call PC, I call spin. We use it, they use it, but it is BS. Lets not fall into the Anne Coulter polemic hate mode. So yes, the British will continue to be attacked, but no, not because of soft police work.

I partially agree. I do wonder why there hasn't been a stronger counter movement to this dangerous extremism. Of course, alienating the currently law abiding Muslim population is not going to help matters.

However, looking at it globally, if the war in Iraq is truly a natural extension of the war on terror, then the Muslim community has carried the burden. How many Iraqi's have died trying to create a free Iraq? They have shed more blood fighting foreign fighters than we have.

No, I don't work for Scotland Yard, or SAS, or all their various police and counter-terrorist teams. But, the guy is still speaking, freely, distributing REAL hate and sedition. I'm sure they're watching him closely, but while they watch, he recruits.

Maybe they should get on board then. Most I've run across, in my experience, partially agree with Osama. These people are not my friends, if that is the case.

Sure have, and they should be remembered and honored for it. There is no doubt about that. But most Syrians, Iranians, Yemenites, Lebanese, Egyptians, Saudis, Indonesians, Europeans, and Americans have done nothing. Silence is the same as support in many cases. Until there is a definitive and public outcry against muslim terrorists, their silence can be equated with support for them. The classic "well that's not real Muslim!" line is getting real old and is nothing but hollow and apologetic.

Look, I know muslims who do want blood for what Osama and his cronies have done. They are few and far between.

Alienation and isolation would be a quick fix to attacks right now, but would it do anything to curb the growth of extremism? I think no, but, as usual, am open to other points of view.

Interesting point about profiling. There has been an increasing call for it in this country. One of the louder voices is even a Democrat from NY! Unreal. I guess they're figuring out what Israel figured out a loooong time ago. You CAN, within reason, figure out who your suspects are.

Funny thing about the Koran too. In some of the newer translated versions offered here in the states, the part about killing the infidel is left out... but it's still there in the Arabic version. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
