Funny thing about the Koran too. In some of the newer translated versions offered here in the states, the part about killing the infidel is left out... but it's still there in the Arabic version. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

That I didn't know, interesting. The excerpt I read was in the English textbook for the class, not an actual Koran.

Technically, according to Islamic law, any translation of the Koran is not actually THE Koran but considered to be an interpretation of the Koran (and if you know anything about the Arabic language, you can see why they feel that way). Only the actual Arabic Koran is THE Koran.

And I have two different translations/interpretations of the Koran at home that seem to have two very different messages. One is certainly a little more bloodthirsty where the "infidel" is concerned, but both seem to give more of an impression of "kill them if they mess with you" rather than "seek them out and kill them." And both focus more on charity than anything else. But like I said, they're both just interpretations.

"I don't believe the majority of Muslims who say they don't support Osama and other extremist/terrorists, because if they didn't, they wouldn't be Muslim according to my understanding of the Koran."

I highly recommend reading the Qur'an in Arabic, or at least a good translation before you start discussing the intent and interpretation of the Qur'an. Reading a passage in English class about infidels probably has mislead you about the message of the Koran. It is like reading chapter 15 of Leviticus and thinking the bible was a manual for cleanliness. I personally have never read the Qur'an in Arabic, but I've heard it is very poetic.

"What he meant was, those that hate us, already hate us. It's like those jackoffs who oppose killing the bad guys... because it will only make them hate us more. Wtf kind of logic is that?"

It isn't about current terrorists. There aren't that many current terrorists. There are no reliable statistics, but they are few and far between. The concern is potential terrorists. We don't want to give ideological ammunition to the opposition which they can use to recruit middle class British citizens.

We already racial profile, just unofficially. If you were searching bags in a NYC subway, whose bag do you search the most thoroughly? Making it official would save money, but also violate our constitution. Lets just keep doing it unofficially.

Here is an interesting article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4742869.stm

This article is not attributed to anyone nor is it linked to any source. I am not going to believe that this is real unless I see something to back it up. I seriously doubt that it is true because some of the things about taking off your shoes before you raid a house and waiting for the prayers to be finished. If you all had noticed the Brits don't have a lot of hesitation busting down doors, or making guys strip. They sure as hell did not hesitate when they shot the Brazilian guy, 7 shots point blank into the head.

Show me stuff to back this up, from a legitimate source, and I might believe it (Anyone else notice it was a Bedfordshire Police memo, not a national one?). I am not going to get worked up over something that may or may not be true in the first place.

There aren't that many terrorists? How you do know that? Do you personally know terrorists? I believe there are plenty of terrorists out there. Maybe you didn't see the news about the Taliban in Afghanistan, or those attacking our troops in Iraq now. And even if there aren't that many terrorists, it only takes one who's successful to kill people. Sorry man, but I just don't agree with your logic.

We are talking about entirely different issues. It isn't worth an explanation.

Just my thoughts on this thread..coming obviously from the only British person..and it seems the only one who has been to the UK???

Do you think that for one minute that the British police are really going to follow those points?? I can tell you now that my brother-in-law is a policeman in the UK...and they will do what they have to do...IE the Brazillian guy who was shot !!...yes well all have guidelines to follow...all of us..to make us seem more politically correct....in our employment....our driving...our behaviour....but do we follow them to a T ??? nope...course not.
For goodness sake...we have been dealing with terrorism in the UK for years now...it is no stranger to us...yes !! this might have been brewing up in the UK....yes there are radical muslim clerics over there spouting all kinds of awfulness....and believe it or not..we are working very hard to deal with all of this..we are a very small country and have a very small economy, the money that is needed to support the USA in the war against terror is absolutly extrodinary !!...there have been many British Soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq...we have always been beside you....always....we are trying to fight our terrorism in our own way.....it might not be the way that you would fight it...meaning the american way...but we are a different culture...we all want the same result...believe me we do...just try to be behind the UK..dont rush to conclusions...and please dont talk about Britain being bombed again...thats just hurtful....

I wish they would have shown that kind of respect the the CAtholics in n. Ireland for the last 500 years

Maybe you should read your history books?? and if the brits were so bad to the Northern Irish..then why are they agreeing to a ceasefire?? and handing in all their weapons??....remember we have been bombed by the IRA for decades now...I myself have even been in a bomb scare....it's no picnic.

It would be really nice if you would re-direct your disaproval for the British toward maybe something alittle more constructive, and remember that one day you may just have a British Royal Marine right beside you...watching your back.

All too often it is young children and old women. And men in uniform (I've been searched THOROUGHLY in full uniform with authentic ID...). Oh, let's not forget confiscating plastic 2" long molds of guns from GI Joe because they "look like a gun". Common sense and use of the brain needs to show its head more before I have any faith in our screeners.

Thanks for your reply. Was wondering if any Brits were on the forum. Welcome!

I'm sorry for your nation's loss, truly, I love you Brits, even if your laws and culture are a bit whacky sometimes, but I will not tip-toe around a very real issue because it is hurtful. The United States WILL be bombed again as well. Fact.

It is just a big thing to be so sure of. Where I come from, if I say something like that, I get my ass kicked... that's all.
