Unless this happens:icon_tong

Best line I heard after this was the detachment intel officer asking the OIC is this meant the plane wash was cancelled?
When was this Ranger 26 pic taken? I worked on that A/C only we called it JMOD. Takes me back.

The crash was on the morning of September 23, 1997. This photo (lifted from another webiste) is probably from the next day.

I'm still looking around the house for the panoramic photos I took the next day when my crew rotated down to relieve the crash crew.

Not a great day to have recently taken over as NFO NATOPS, either. :icon_tong

Here is a link to the website where I found the photo. It details all the aviation mishaps from VQ-2: http://www.portlyautey.com/ECM-2.htm

I wonder if Skeeterooni had a booth out there?

I doubt he was there… no Banshee’s. Isn’t that what ole Skeeter flew when he was a naval aviator? :)

Yep… in his blog he mentioned he was the “Skeeter” mentioned in chapter 11 of Gillcrist’s book, “Vultures Row. Thirty Years in Naval Aviation.” Maybe my math is wrong… but the, Skeeter written about in the book graduated from the Naval Academy in 1952. That makes it kinda hard to get through flight training AND get to fly jets during the Korean War… unless there was a time warp Not to mention the real Skeeter’s last name was Carson.

Just sayin'...

Thought this was a pretty cool shot, a little different than most of the overhead views the media center releases:
