Surprised to not to have seen this pop-up here. I vaguely recall hearing some rumors about it over a year ago, but it looks like the cat is out of the bag.

An update from Swatch, NJ... They sent me the service form and then sent me a second email confirming there was no charge for Military Purchase watches. The catch...they want proof of purchase with the form. Now I need to find where ever the hell my original watch case is with my serial numbers.

That's a new one for me, mine needs service so thanks for the heads up. What kind of proof does the serial number provide?

The form states "please include a copy of receipt or warranty card." I believe your serial is on the warranty card, so I was just referring to trying to find where those cards are.

I have them...I just don't know where.

So after a decade of wearing smart watches all the time I decided to start wearing analog watches again. I'm definitely not playing in the Omega sandbox like a lot of you (staying sub-$1000), but I think I've put together a pretty decent collection of relatively affordable quality watches. I started with the Hamilton Chronograph because I like the brand and the classic styling of it. Then I decided to get an automatic so I found a European model Citizen with the peakaboo window. While I was looking for that I saw the Glycine Airman Noon automatic and really liked the retro styling and 24-hour dial. Then I bought the Luminox because, frankly, I love things that glow in the dark and I've wanted one since I was a kid. Next I wanted a moon phase watch because, why not? I thought about the Swatch x Omega Moonswatch, but honestly as cool as they are I think they're way overpriced. Then I saw the Tsuki-yomi and thought it was awesome. It ticked all the boxes - unique dial, titanium, and AT. Finally, I bought the Skyhawk titanium because, like the Luminox, I've wanted a Skyhawk since I was a kid. Of course, back then I wanted the Blue Angels version but now I know better.

The blue Citizen on the end isn't really anything special. It was my attempt to go halfway between smart and dumb watches. It's actually a smart watch, though it has no display. It just syncs with my phone and vibrates when I have an alert. I do really like the blue face on it, though.

So now I have one slot left in my display case. Any suggestions?

After years of only wearing digital watches (e.g., Suunto Core, G-Shock) and more recently a Garmin Instinct, I'm finally dipping my toes into the world of nice analog watches. Below are my 2 current ones, a Hamilton Khaki Field Auto and a Sangin Overlord. Neither are as nice as a Speedmaster, but I'm a big fan (aesthetically and symbolically) of the circa 1960s American field watch design.

The Hamilton is a dressier watch, but truthfully at $600 you get what you pay for. The lume is extremely underwhelming; lasts for maybe 20 minutes into a night flight and then you can only just barely see the hour and minute hands. The crystal for sure has no anti-reflective coating whatsoever. The mirror polished bezel also scratches stupid easily.

The Sangin is a newer purchase but it has quickly become my everyday wear. It's quartz, so no sexy sweeping hand motion but of course you set it and it holds its accuracy for weeks. The lume is impressive and lasts for several hours. And in my opinion, screw-down crown > no screw-down crown. I could go either way on the date window vs. a GMT hand; I reference the date window more in everyday life whereas I care far more about GMT when I'm in the cockpit.

Just personally, set the goal high (Omega/Rolex/etc), that way when you get it, it will matter that much more. I bought my Explorer II 5 years ago now and it still brings a smile to my face every time I look at it. I know what it took to get it, so it has intrinsic value. Rolex specifically, if you can find it at retail, it will likely never depreciate.

Oh and I wear a Garmin fitness band on the other wrist for basic fitness stuff.
