23MAY2022 SNA/SNFO BOARD

What event was it? And why are you skeptical? When did you get selected?
A flag officer recently found out about the ridiculously long wait in Pensacola for all the flight trainings (15-18 months). They’re frantically trying to reduce the wait time with more operational aircraft, instructors, contracting more civilians for maintenance, offering people to re-designate. This is also affecting peoples ocs dates that haven’t gone yet. It will be extremely unlikely to get an earlier ocs date

People who were set and ready to go to ocs this month and next month basically got told that they're on hold indefinitely. I'm skeptical I'll be going in January because of:
1. The indefinite hold for people leaving October and November
2. There's people who were given a pro-rec Y over a year ago who still haven't shipped, and I got selected in May.
3. The backup in pensacola means they're not really hurting for people to sit around in A-pool until they figure things out.

But we all live and die by the whims of the great machine, so who really knows what's going to happen.

Wow, I literally know nothing about this. All I heard from my OR is the wait is really long. I was selected in May as well but I don’t have a ship date yet. He said it would likely summer 2023. I doubt it’s not gonna happen.
Btw what is pro-rec Y?

A pro-rec-y means Professionally Recommended - Yes vs pro-rec-no or Professionally Recommended - No. This is the first hurdle of getting to OCS and its what you have. The second is Final Select and that doesn't usually happen until really close to your OCS date.

Does it mean we have to be selected for the final select before we have to date to go to OCS? If yes, do you know how it is done and is there a chance we got pro rec y but not in the final select?

I'm not sure how Final Select works. I think get it as long as you don’t get a DUI, kill someone, or something else of the at magnitude during the time between your pro-rec-y and final select. I think its just email with all the information to get you to OCS, setting up travel, etc etc

got a call from my recruiter today, asking if I wanted to switch to another designator. Said they are having a board for aviation selects who don't want to wait the year+ to go OCS. Personally I told him no, I'm fine with waiting. I have a good job in the meantime and I'm not close to Aging out... But thought I'd share to keep people updated.

I got the same call today asking if I was interested in switching designators. I let my recruiter know I am fine with waiting as well.

I know people are getting calls from their recruiter in case they want to redesignate, but there have been rumors that the board is considering deselecting Prorec-Y SNA's. Can anyone shed some light on this? I read from another forum the Navy wouldn't do this but I'd like some clarification.

Ah yes, they'll be holding the infamous SNA/SNFO deselection boards, where they'll pit all of the currently selected people waiting to go to OCS against each other in one on one mortal combat. The winner of each round gets to both live and go to OCS. This way, they reduce the number of people waiting for OCS by at least half.

But seriously, I wouldn't worry. The navy isn't paying us squat, so we cost them nothing, and they already know that we have a decent chance of getting through flight school. They're just gonna make us wait for a long time.

They have done this before several years ago, but it is rare, very rare. They have had people waiting 18 months before and didn't do that, so for them to do that when they did it must have been a significant wait.
