With the old men, the forum, this thread, or the living? lolWill you still be 'with us' when the prorec's come in?
For a moment I forgot you were a May prorec-Y and not a Nov prorec-Y! Good job immersing yourself here Yes I meant with the living during this round of prorec's.With the old men, the forum, this thread, or the living? lol
Unfortunately I can’t stop aging, I’ll be hanging out here long term, I’m invested in seeing how many of you guys get accepted this board, and we’ll see how alive I am after the May board when I get my results ?
If he made you make a choice, then you made the right one 100%! And if making maps is the watered down version of what you do, what is it exactly that you do?Okay y’all’s relationship is goals because that takes some serious balancing and commitment. Yeah my family has zero clue what I do even now haha. I don’t know if they could figure out my masters thesis if they tried. I’m always like I make maps which is definitely like the ultra watered down version of what I do. I don’t think my mom ever pictured her only child doing something other than a PhD. Haha I think she imagined her daughter working at NASA not her daughter wanting to be in the Navy. I think my mom is coming around and trying to understand a bit more though. But I will say this process did open my eyes because my ex made me choose him or applying. Haha so honestly I’m kind of thankful for this process because no one wants a partner who will not be supportive of their dreams.
I think sometimes people give ultimatums cause they know what you’ll pick and it’s an easy out. Haha exactly what I said to my mom about that.If he was willing to give an ultimatum like that I’d say good riddance. And hey, who says you won’t work for nasa post navy?
I’m sure hoping to be a prorec-y come May board! For a moment I forgot you were a May prorec-Y and not a Nov prorec-Y! Good job immersing yourself here Yes I meant with the living during this round of prorec's.

I get that. I walked way from a music career because my wife couldn’t take it anymore (that’s why I’m here). I already miss it and wonder what life could become if I had stayed on that path, but family is way more important and honestly a career as officer/in aviation is also pretty amazing. No regrets, but definitely some wondering/longing to know what could’ve become.I met a man in his 40s on a complete whim (while hiking in the woods, lol) who applied to navy OCS in his 20s. It was his dream to commission. His now-wife told him she didn't want to be a military wife and gave him the same ultimatum. He chose her and to have a normal family life over his PROREC-Y.
20 years later, he has worked a regular 9-5 as a civil engineer, has wonderful children and loves his wife.
He told me he doesn't regret it as family over all else, however, he does think about the what if he had gone to OCS almost weekly.
That is super cool! I'd definitely be interested in doing something like that for a Master's! Right now I maintain a lot of those same types of systems, but I have always wanted to expand my knowledge and work more as an operator hence why I am now applying for NFO. I love my job but I am ready for something in a similar field that brings on new challenges, plus flying lol. That is super cool though. Are you going for SNA, SNFO, or both? For my masters I worked with infrared, sonar, lidar, radar, thermal, and your regular RGB imagery. Sometimes processing satellite imagery or collecting my own drone imagery. I also collect data in the field and make terrain models. I do make maps as more of a presentation product. Now with my job right now I work with aerial imagery and then like different data about pipelines.

Well I wish you the best of luck and hope to run into you again in the future as NFOs lol cause you seem dope!SNFO because it really sounded like something that would interest me. Yeah my masters really taught me a lot cause I do coding also to automate my stuff too. I considered SNA but I really felt like SNFO was the better fit and I’d like the most.
Haha you too!! Haha I’m like I hope we all run into each other as future NFOs and aviators just so we can be like are you so and so from air warriors ?Well I wish you the best of luck and hope to run into you again in the future as NFOs lol cause you seem dope!
I actually ended a 3yr serious relationship because of this very thing. I was not going to look back 20yrs down the road and wonder what if. I was not having any support in the slightest regarding my passion for flying in the military. So off with the head and went for it.If your significant other gives you an ultimatum in response to your desire to commission, it’s kinda weak to say they won’t support your dreams so off with their head. Go look thru the threads where men and women who have been down this path are discussing the lifestyle. They will be the first to say how commissioning basically nuked their SO’s career. We get to fly the jets. They get to stay home in Lemoore doing who knows what.
just like we have every right to desire a commission, they have every right to not want to be a part of what will be an incredible difficult life. That’s a perfectly good reason to go your separate ways.
