They are not enforced to pay. It's completely dependent on the company.

"Employers are not required to compensate employees for absences due to military service. An employee may elect to use any accrued vacation leave in lieu of unpaid military leave. However, an employer cannot require an employee to use vacation time for the purpose of military leave."
Yeah my company won't pay me nothin. It's basically counted as a long-form furlough. And tbh, if I'm going to OCS and flight school, I'm not stopping until I get my wings of gold, at which point the whole military leave thing becomes moot.

they aren't enforced to pay you, just to keep your position. However some defense contractors will keep your pay and benefits going even after you start your military time....it depends on the company, but it seems like defense contractors include it as a part of your benefits package
Wow. No idea they still paid while you're away. But I would definitely look more into your policy closely because I feel like there is a very good chance you may have to pay the money back if you do not return within 5 years. As much as these Defense contractors love to support the troops, they aren't gonna give free money away if they're not getting anything in return.
