Maybe the article had a typo and LCDR Browning received a Hair Medal?
Proper CRM from an engaged, non-sandbagging member of the crew. With a mind that actually functions at over 30 knots . . . just sayin'.^Moral support!

Any SWOs mind functions at >30kts too from looking at consoles...no different than a Hawkeye NFO... except we actually can launch crap!
Not any that I've encountered professionally...Most just chatted over to the CVN TAO or the DESRON for direction on what to do.
Either standards have gone down, or it's a melinnial thing... But half my time on watch was spent getting asked by CRUDES SWOs how to operate their ships (basic stuff they probably should know to get qualified...I have no idea how many GTEs you should have online to keep up with me, and I'm not going to tell you how to turn to avoid a collision with a contact...). The one time they were trusted to execute a strike they messed that all to hell.
Hopefully my strike group experience was an isolated incident.
I hope it was. I certainly don't speak of all SWOs.
The same way I hope you don't speak for all P-3 crews in C6F who couldn't stay up in comms, needed constant cues via voice to update their orbits, and who- at least once-dropped their buoys f-ing miles from where *they had told us* that they were going to.
And in terms of what you were doing on the CVN (as a P-3 guy, I assume CV TAO)... CVs are famous for being f-ing horrible ship drivers. I might be one of the few SWOs who has empathy and understands why the manning, training, and circumstances of the CV make them such horrific ship drivers. Still, hope you understand why SWOs have very good reason to "ask you how to operate" A.K.A. ask you how to not collide with them.

In terms of this incident though, it would be like giving a MSM to my E-3 QM (navigator) for helping in avoiding a grounding.
Get the fuck out of here... are you serious? No really, are you comparing a ship grounding to this?
Fuck outta here and go back to Sailor Bob. Jesus fucking wept.
You are either an amazing troll or a fucking idiot.
Your post shows an ignorance of the level of how much an enlisted QM factors into how we navigate into port. Do you think an NFO is more integral to an E-2 landing on a CVN? I'd argue an NFO is much less essential than the QM in these evolutions.
Your job in your profile is listed as TAO. Oh wow...you must be one hell of an aviator that they put you on a ship in CIC...
