I definitely think I did better on the dichotic listening during the actual test than what I typically got during practice with the sim, so that could’ve definitely contributed to the score. I don’t know which is weighted heavier though

As for what I focused on I’d say it was about equal, I got in the zone and had a pretty even split between listening and following. I would say practicing the listening until you don’t really have to think about it makes it a lot easier to focus on tracking. Definitely practice both at the same once you can do them individually though. Part of the difficulty is having to process that much at once, and it definitely won’t be beneficial to skimp the stick and rudder portion in favor of getting the dichotic listening 100%

The biggest advice I can give for the stick and rudder is to have a good scan of the screen. Don’t fixate on either portion too long trying to get it just right, just get it on target and keep the scan going.
Thanks for the quick and detailed response. Im starting right off the bat on hard mode and averaging around 140-160 on just the stick. Looking to see if I can get good enough by the end of the week to incorporate the rudder.

Does the Jantzen Simulator work with the X52 HOTAS? I can't seem to get it working in my browser. I don't want to have wasted money on buying this thing if I can't actually get it to work for the purpose of studying.

Is anyone else having a problem with the emergency mode ? Currently using a X52 with antimicro and the config file thats attached to this thread. Is the emergency mode supposed to trigger as soon as I get through the instruction prompts ?
Could you help me find the configuration file?

Just curious how y'all think the mouse and keyboard controls transfer over? I'm looking at getting a stick on the cheaper side but not sure about dishing out so much for a whole HOTAS set

I got the X52 HOTAS to work. It took some doing. The one thing I didn't realize for a while was you plug the Stick into the throttle, then the throttle into the computer. I plugged both directly into computer at first.

Just ordered the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X off amazon so we'll see how that works. Really hoping to get 7/7/7

The Thrustmaster Hotas works very well. Got one myself a couple of weeks ago and used it with this simulator to practice for the ASTB. Before I found this simulator, I took the ASTB in March 2025 and got a 50 5/7/6. Just retook the test today and got a 58 8/9/9. This simulator was perfect. For reference, if you can get consistent 100-120 for scores on the hardest difficulty on the sim, you will pass easily on the test. For the other parts of the test, I used two ASTB apps on iPhone (one costs about $40 but really helps with the OAR, ANIT, and the performance tests).

This is great feedback, thanks for sharing! Yeah I’ve been using the ASTB tutoring app and just found the ASTB prep app yesterday which I’ll likely purchase as well, especially for the UAV/spacial apperception portion. I’ve been using the mometrix and “complete ASTB” study guides. My test is scheduled for the beginning of July
