FY10 STA-21 Applicants gather round!

Give me some feedback. This is the killer for my package if there is one.

"BM2 Gates is a very solid Petty Officer who probably belongs in the Navy as a Commissioned Officer. He is solid, smart, and committed. I was not dazzled by his answers regarding the meaning of an Officer's Commission. I don't think he has a completely mature idea of what it means to be an officer. Then again, I don't think I did, when I was in his shoes, and now I'm an XO."

"Great potential. Hugely motivated. I strongly recommend him for the program."

No marks below 8.

All other board member gave me great marks and write ups. My NRB was straight 10s with great write ups as well.

Anyone get selected with a handicap like that?

I think it just depends on what the board is looking for, i have never heard of someone getting completely dropped because of one not so awesome board. If the rest of your package was good with good recommendation letters and your CO's endorsement and interview were good then your right there with the rest of us just waiting to see our name on the list.

I hope your right. Hopefully they look at my prior XO's LOR since this guy had been there a few weeks...maybe a month. The rest of the package is solid I believe. I just get worried they will wonder why my XO thinks the way he does. It's not a negative endorsement, just leaves some to be desired.

After July 1st its easy to find little things to scrutinize in your package. As long as you are happy with the way your package came out then your all good as far as i see. One officer may make a statement that completely saves you for that one small desired comment. I could have sworn up and down my package was perfect. I had a couple small mistakes that i had no control over but ended up in my final package. The joys of cutting the deadline close.

I am not gonna lie, I was very thankful I viewed the package after the NRB. I know it is not proper procedure but I found mistakes that would have DQ'd me. None of the appraisals had job title or designator. I called the NC at the command and got the information and typed it in.

The only thing I can scrutinize is that appraisal and my ASTB scores 5/6/5 49 which aren't horrible. So I can't complain to much.

The LT that was coordinating all of my Interviews and my NRB told me straight up that the appraisals were lacking the Job Title and Designators on nearly every sheet, and went on to tell me "....Some things you can't control and the board will understand...."......... EVEN AFTER I POINTED OUT TO HIM THAT ON THE STA-21 WEBSITE IT WAS IN RED SPECIFICALLY STATING "MUST INCLUDE JOB TITLE AS WELL AS DESIGNATOR"

I did not. I never even thought of it. Not that it would make a difference because the same LT made it a point to everyone in my Interview process not to let me get ahold of my package after the first interview..... needless to say I wouldnt be able to fix it anyways.

Thats piss poor in my eyes. If they are going to be the final hands on the package they should read OPNAV 1420.1 as many times as we have. I explained to the NC who set up my NRB the issues I have always had with the CoC and admin and he understood that it was my package and no one cared as much about it.

Hopefully the board looks beyond the things that you could not control and your package is solid in all other aspects.

Man, that makes me mad just hearing about it. My command submitted the wrong PFA results (it didn't contain the RAW scores), but at least they were doing what they thought was best. It sounds like the LT on your board was specifically trying to ruin your package.

If you checked your "package status" and nothing popped up then you are fine about the forms. I printed my Page 13s out on my MAC and it didnt have a solid black line at the bottom so they thought I had them re-typed and the website said I was DQed until I called Ed and said "WTF-over". He looked at it and said it was okay and let it slide.

Also at NSI in May I know of 8 other people that had messages that said things all the way up to "we didnt receive any of your interview sheets". I think they may just screw some stuff up sometimes to see if you care enough to fix it.

Same thing happened to me, no Job Title designator, nothing. What i did with my Interview Board was i printed a copy of the instruction for each board member and highlighted some keys points. also i recommend putting your Interview appraisal sheets on a disc with a copy of the highlighted instruction on how to properly fill it out. Officers today would rather work it on their computer than write your appraisal out by hand.

im not trying to be a dick or anything, but it was your package and ultimately your responsibility to make sure everything was correct. One thing ive learned is that, its not that they dont care about you but they have alot more important stuff going on and your not going to be theyre priority.

The PFA thing, yeah, that's on you. Anything regarding your interviews, there's not much you can do other than be VERY specific on how they're supposed to be setup. Last year my command wouldn't even release the interview sheets to me AFTER results came out, and it doesn't look like this command is going to either.

The only thing that I had to take action on after viewing my "Package Status" was submitting proof of my EAWS. So if what you say is true...... then I should be ok.
