I have, for a variety of reasons, all valid, 2 weeks is average.
Nothing is wrong with SWO for sure...however don't assume that you have to go SWO to be a Commanding Officer some day...NFO's and pilots are the CO's of air squadrons, wings, and even aircraft carriers. SUPPO's command supply detachments and groups and even supply vessels etc etcI am still pondering between SWO and NFO. I like the idea of flying, but I also want to gain my own command one day, as well as attend the Naval War College later in my career. Dont let people put you down if you want SWO.
I had an application sent back because we failed to supply a LOR or explanation for each employer.
Generally if a person doesn't get picked for SWO the odds of them getting picked for another designator is low (this does sound bad, but SWO is very general and is the "catch all" for those that don't have degrees that correlate to other designators), the exception is a person that then decides to go aviation.
Not all my jobs had The possibility of getting a recommendation from my boss because the person had left, or in the case of being a soccer referee at college, there was no one I recognized as my boss and the managers change year to year or graduate anyway (I just showed up when I had my shift and filled in my time sheet). My OR mentioned nothing about having to submit an explanation... I'm hoping mine isn't passed over due to a couple missing LORs from employers...
Only 3 times for each, once they fix the last glitch on the new ASTB it goes to 2 times.

NavyOffRec...what are you expecting the SWO quotas to be like considering the amount of time these results are taking to come out?
Looking at the 1420.1B there are spots to enter scores for P/FOFAR, P/FOBI, AQT. On my ASTB score report it has the scores listed as P/FAR, FOFAR, and AQR. Am I correct in assuming that P/FAR = P/FOBI, AQR=AQT, and P/FOFAR = FOFAR?
Anyone who criticizes another for selecting SWO is a douchebag. Not everyone is particularly enthralled, or comfortable with flying... in spite of them having met flight training entrance requirements. We Brownshoes do give our Blackshoe brethren/sistern an occasional hard time (after all, we're an 'Airdale' site), but seriously, we secretly admire them and what they do.Edit: For clarification, I just signed up for SWO. It's interesting when people who know what a SWO is discover this fact and ask themselves "People actually want to be SWOs?" Yup....
Actually, if one isn't REALLY MOTIVATED to fly, it is better for the individual, and other Naviators, for them to select another field. Flight training is not a very fun, or necessarily safe gig, if you're not really into this "breaking the laws of gravity thingee!I am still pondering between SWO and NFO. Thank you for the advice, CTI2. I am still holding off on any decisions until I hear the results of this board, but I certainly appreciate your concern! Here's my opinion (forgive grammar and spelling, on my phone), for what it's worth. I requested orders for a special program, knowing that I would apply for OCS before I even completed my training. I planned my enlisted career as if I won't get OCS, because there is no guarantee. OCS is my ultimate goal and I could have saved the spot in the program for somebody else... but I didn't. If you need to get a job, do it. Don't let that job prevent you from going after your real goals though. I understand and appreciate your moral position, but don't piss up a great opportunity for a long term career because of a job you get out of necessity.
Ya I had a mixture of both cause they filled out the checklist. My understanding, and what I was required to do, was to complete DD Form 370 character reference forms for all employers in the last 3 years at a minimum of 3. If I didn't have 3 employers I was required to get a professional reference from a co worker etc. My LORs were written letters that were signed and on command letterhead when possible, not on DD Form 370's, although I have heard that you are permitted to have an LOR completed on that form if you wish. However I personally wouldn't want my LOR's mixed in with standard employment references...just my two cents![]()
I thought you could take the OAR as many times as you wanted but the ASTB only 3 times.
