Token Air Force (Viper) Guy
Crap. Another AF guy... Although by his admission - he did wear the pressed flight suit & ascot, so he can't deny it like Huggy and Hacker try to... Welcome aboard!

Thanx and just to be clear -- the T-bird thing was a joke (it was my vegas cover story --along with on call male dancer--back in the day that MB1K refers to). I have never worn an ascot, a flight suit colored other than green, or done loops to music --not that there is anything wrong with that! I have done a fly by or two . been early, been late ( I blame the natioanl anthem singer) been in full grunt, but never been upside down over show center.

So who wants the real story?

Talked to a bro 30 minutes ago, that was dash two in the fly over.

They got a bad hack from the dude on the ground. They pushed, then were waved off. Lead spins the formation around, and during the turn they get the push call again. He breaks back towards the field, taps burner, and the entire formation gets scattered. Everyone is in a mad dash to rejoin, and our intrepid hero got stuck with a shit-ton of closure, as lead goes idle boards to correct timing after turning in with too much smack.

For all the ready room commando's here (specifically the ones without wings that felt compelled to critique) the rejoin technique he used is not unusual according to my Viper buds, just not to be done so low and so close to the rest of the formation. He didn't scare anyone in the flight, however the fact that it was on national tv and had the aura of "flat hatting" automatically generates the spot light and Flag level attention.

As a bug guy, do you guys ever intentionally do any joins a la canopy roll (ok, more specifically, brief) to actually control closure that way?

This is a serious question.

I have seen and heard about Hornet guys doing pretty 5X5 joins, but this looks a little...well...different.

And as for you avatar question, I think we all assumed the girl is the amateur porn star. And you are the other one pictured. Is that not right?

When in section, I can say I've "done what it takes" to get rejoined when needed. As dash four in a division with all three in sight, eh you may piss of the rest of the guys in the flight. All I know is Viper guys have said this isn't unusual. In this case, I probably would've just broken hard right and removed myself from the picture entirely.

Did it on a frequent and regular basis when joining on VF-201/202 or VMFA-112 to RTB at the culmination of a briefed hop ... but only if I "won" ... just to rub it in. :D

Not something you would like to put out there as SOP, however. :)

That may be the official party line version of the story, but I'm still of the opinion that it was intentional. Even if the "cover story" version is true, pushing a bad situation to the point they did is a worse transgression than the, "Hey let's do a bitchin' flyover and say we just messed it up" scenario.

No way ... but IF IT WAS ... and that's always possible (like I know?) ... then they are more fucked up than they'd be by just fucking up. :)

I just can't see a division lead pressing a situation so bad that the RDVS wasn't even complete until over show-center. Much better to be early/late than to show up as a complete cluster fuck. Dunno, maybe I'm applying Navy standards to a non-Navy organization. :D Either way one chooses to dissect it, it was an unbelievable error in judgment
