Indeed, in that it would have essentially zero warfighting capability. Very impressive. That would be quite the air wing.

Plenty of deck space to operate at, say, 200 aircraft. Still impressive.Indeed, in that it would have essentially zero warfighting capability. Very impressive.

No one is calling it a Lightening Carrier, sooo you should be good.Plenty of deck space to operate at, say, 200 aircraft. Still impressive.
I read that as grumping out on A Christmas Story, How could anyone hate on poor Ralphy?I am very fun at parties, as long as it is not Abbot and Costello themed.
Now I am really going to be in trouble, as I have never seen that movie. I have seen bits and pieces when it runs 24/7 at Christmas time, but never more than 5 minutes or so at a time.I read that as grumping out on A Christmas Story, How could anyone hate on poor Ralphy?
Drachinifel’s video stated that the Essex class had roughly 67,500 sq ft of deck and hangar space compared to 350,000 sq ft on the Ford. If a ship had existed of that size back then, an air group of 460 would be wayyyy to large to handle - but you could have seen a big increase in twin engine medium bombers. As with all things from Drachinifel, fun to listen to.Final Countdown remake: the whole time travel thing, yada yada... but the Ford is out to sea without its airwing when it time warps. Shows up in Hawaii on Dec 4, 1941. Since nothing works on it and there's no air wing, they're feeling a little more spicy about intervening in history. "Come on everyone, hop on! We got plenty of deck space! Let's GOOOOOO"
And had a fantastic music score! And for those who have never seen 1980’s The Final Countdown, a great popcorn movie.
If those pesky commies come across the border Ralphy will shoot their eyes out.Now I am really going to be in trouble, as I have never seen that movie. I have seen bits and pieces when it runs 24/7 at Christmas time, but never more than 5 minutes or so at a time.
Hopefully if the Russians attack, I won't get asked a question about The Christmas Story to verify I am a real American.
Yikes! That is terrible. The NPS and Navy pulled the USS Cassin Young (similar type) into dry dock a few years ago to recover her hull because of several tiny leaks…probably saved her from the same fate.USS The Sullivans is sinking.
