Taking a look at some designs that were considered but never built, starting with the Royal Navy’s N3 class. Mounting 9 (3x3) 18” cannons and having armor that was possibly more effective than the Yamato, it was unable to survive the Washington Naval Treaty.
The class was to 4 ships, named after the patron saints of Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales respectively: HMS St Andrews, HMS St George, HMS St Patrick and HMS St David.
Estimated at 820 ft in length, beam of 106 ft, displacement 49,000 tons and good for 23 knots.
