Gadies and Lentlemen, I have a question. So got accepted for SNA. I need some info on the medical exam that the flight docs in Pensacola administer. I was “diagnosed” with ADHD. I have been off of the meds for over a year and have documentation to back that up. Am I going to get railroaded at the flight physical and potentially have to work a job for 8 years that I didn’t sign up for?! Scared to ask my recruiter, so I wanted to give this thread a try first
You disclosed all this up front with your recruiter and MEPS right?

If you fail to meet vision standards for SNA at NAMI, could you get lasik or PRK and re-apply for SNA after 6 month post op? Just curious because I’ve been worrying about my vision and NAMI lol.
Yes you can, I was med DQd at OCS (different eye issue) and am in the waiver process to go back.

The Navy is a lot more lenient on ADHD now. Some forms of ADHD are auto-qualified now and some require a little bit of extra work. Is it something you were diagnosed with after you went to MEPS?

Do they do a different eye test at OCS than at Meps? I don’t know what my vision scores were at meps but I assumed they were fine if they cleared me to apply? I’m going for NFO so I think the vision requirements are more lienant

The test is completely different.
I am attaching the navy aeromedical guidelines they follow to qualify you for each job and their flight physical.
Learn some of your scores and this information so you can properly advocate for yourself should you need to.

Congratulations to all who were selected! I was chosen in the last board and will be heading to OCS next weekend. By the time some of you arrive, I hope to be a Candio and look forward to seeing you there. Good luck and congrats again!

My class has a fantastic GroupMe chat that’s been very informative, and we plan to pass it on to future classes to keep the information flowing. If you’d like to join, just send me a DM.

Take this with a grain of salt because it’s entirely different for everyone, BUT, these are my first hand experiences from friends I attended OCS with. I’d also like to preface I’m not trying to spark fear in you but rather give you an idea of what you might expect. You will all see a flight doc week 1. They are more than likely going to send you out of town to a “specialist” to determine whether or not your previous diagnosis can be waived. Basically they’re going to have you take a bunch of tests and determine whether you can function off meds. Again this happened to at least 2 people I attended OCS with. Both these 2 ended up getting PQed and are starting primary with me in a month. The worst part to all of this is it takes weeks to see that specialist while attending OCS. It then takes NAMI a while to get the documents from the specialist and make their decision. They didn’t get their PQ letters until I wanna say week 9 or 10 of OCS. Which leads to the fear of almost completing OCS with the chance of still being DQed by NAMI.

Did or does the recruiter send some written confirmation of acceptance? Besides a just call saying you’re in and here’s an OCS date. I just want to make sure Im getting into the right thing, or are those papers what is reviewed at PFT, prior to OCS. Thanks for the help.

Your recruiter should send you an acceptance letter that you initial and sign and that seems like the most official thing up until taking the oath and getting orders for OCS.
